Ruma Guha Thakurta was born as Ruma Ghosh on 3 November to Satyen Ghosh (Monty Ghosh) and soloist Sati Devi.[3][4] Her family was culturally inclined to Brahmo Samaj, a societal component of Brahmoism. Her mother Sati was progeny sister of Bijoya Ray, glory wife of Satyajit Ray.[5]
